ITI at dg annual conference "REMEMBER - RESIST -REPRESENT"

Plurality and Identity - Memory in Artistic Practice
ITI Panel at the dg annual conference "REMEMBER - RESIST - REPRESENT"

8. February 2025 I 15 - 16:30 Uhr
Staatstheater Nürnberg, Schauspiel Foyer 1st floor

Who writes history, who remembers what? Are classification, distancing and evaluation inscribed in the moment of remembering? For years and decades, multidirectional unease has been growing in the face of past-related practices of interpretative sovereignty. Critical, deconstructive and artistic ways of dealing with the coagulated rituals of remembrance culture of the majority society are becoming increasingly common: Monuments become (counter)memorials, museums become performative formats, archives become platforms open to participation. Artistic work can transform the majority-determined culture of remembrance and provide new impetus for archiving and (re)presentation.

Nuray Demir, Mike Dele Dittrich Frydetzki and Miriam Ibrahim have tried out different forms of remembrance in their works and will discuss artistic practice and the culture of remembrance with Dan Thy Nguyen on this basis.

The panel will take place as part of the dg annual conference “remember - resist - represent” at the Staatstheater Nuremberg. You can find the entire conference program as well as the registration form on the website of dramaturgische gesellschaft.
