More and more artists are developing projects at the intersection of performing arts and digital media technologies. These productions pose immense challenges for performing arts archives, as they exceed the complexity of traditional archival media types, require completely new cataloguing and indexing practices, and also pose new challenges for the dissemination of these objects and productions.

In a pilot project, the Media Library for Dance and Theater at the International Theater Institute, in cooperation with choreographer Yui Kawaguchi, will use the artist's collection as an example to develop new archival cataloging, digitization, and access methods for these multimedia artistic formats.

The results of this project will be documented in a best practice document which, in addition to
technical and cataloguing parameters, will also address the legal conditions for including multimedia productions in the archive, in cooperation with the agency iRights.

The project is funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion in accordance with its funding guidelines for the digitization of cultural heritage objects in the state of Berlin 2026.
