Transantional Practices in Theatre

Symposium with inputs by Yvonne Griesel, Patty Kim Hamilton, Sam Max, Ewa Mikuła, Wilke Weermann among others

How can dramatic writing be conceived, translated, and brought to the stage across linguistic and cultural boundaries? For playwrights and directors working in transnational contexts, successful language transfer is a central foundation of their artistic work. Translators, surtitlers, and dramaturgs play an important role in this process as mediators. Against this backdrop, we aim to engage in an interdisciplinary discussion about how international exchange in the field of contemporary drama can be structured and made successful, and what challenges are currently emerging.

At this thematic day, organized jointly by ITI and Deutsches Theater, we will bring together diverse artistic perspectives, share experiences, and explore international exchange in contemporary drama.
